Kansas City was originally called just Kansas. The word “City” was tacked on after the Kansas territory was established just west of Missouri, causing widespread confusion among geography students ever since. Today, Kansas City is famous for its homegrown style of steak and barbecue, and the jazz legends who called it home, like saxophonist Charlie Parker and bandleader Count Basie. It earned the nickname The City of Fountains because of, well, its many public fountains, especially in the downtown area. Since the early 2000s the downtown area has undergone an extensive overhaul, making it more enjoyable for Kansas Citians. You will find out more about this unique city and its residents during this downtown walking tour.
