About this TourEmbark on a unique audio tour of Wyoming's
Red Desert travelling between
Lander and Farson on the on the scenic corridor of Highway 28.
Wyoming’s Red Desert is a vast and storied landscape at the heart of the Continental Divide. Some say it encompasses all land south of the Wind River Mountains to Dinosaur National Monument just over the Colorado-Utah-Wyoming Border, from Rawlins, Wyoming in the East to Rock Springs, Wyoming in the West. Others center it on the Great Divide Basin and Jack Morrow Hills north of Interstate 80. Regardless of its elusive boundaries, people have been living with and amongst this land since time immemorial. Its arid nature belies a richness of biological diversity, which has long supported thriving populations of humans and wildlife alike.
As you drive the northern edge of the Red Desert, listen in to conversations with two individuals who have spent extensive time adventuring in, and studying, the Red Desert: John Mionczynski and Tom Christiansen. From cooking over horse poop fires to watching sage-grouse mating displays at sunrise, these two have spent decades immersed in the many colors and moods of the Red Desert and will share some of their stories on this tour.
No landscape as old and wild can be fully explored in a short driving tour; we offer here just a taste of the robust history, ecology, geology, and ruggedness that make this place so special.
