About This TourOn this audio tour of the
Hocking Hills Scenic Byway, you will wind along State Route 374, past six Ohio state parks that make up the Hocking Hills region. You’ll be treated to some of the most scenic sites in Ohio, from the
deep valleys and the cascading waterfalls of Cantwell Cliffs to the cave systems of Rock House and Old Man’s Cave. In between parks, as you drive, we’ll tell you stories of this region’s fascinating artists, wildlife, and geology. And we’ll point out other interesting highlights in the area, like the
John Glenn Astronomy Park and the
Butterfly Ridge Conservation Center.Mother Nature took a little extra time shaping the gorges, caves, waterfalls, and rocky masterpieces in this region. As you travel the byway, we’ll point out the ones we most recommend you stop to explore. We’ll also tell you about those who’ve come before you. From Native Americans to Depression-era workers and modern-day artists and craftspeople, you’ll walk in the footsteps of humans who have enjoyed and celebrated this region for thousands of years.
This route is nationally recognized as an
America’s Byways Scenic Byway. It is designed to be taken starting from the town of Rockbridge and heading south to South Bloomingville. We recommend starting at site 1 and travelling through the stories in the numerical order you see on the map. Where you see safe spots to pull off, we encourage you to stop at any of the sites to explore more. If you pause at any point, the tour will resume whenever and wherever you get back on the route.
