Welcome to this tour -- Gateway to the Catskills: Livingston Manor, Roscoe and more! This is a visitor's guide to a region bordering the Catskill Mountains known as Rockland Township, which lies within three counties: Sullivan, Ulster and Delaware. The Catskills are known for their high mountains, pristine rivers and streams and clear air, which define the landscape from season to season. This tour highlights two of the best-known communities -- or hamlets -- within Rockland: Livingston Manor and Roscoe. It explores some of the area's most interesting historic landmarks, including covered bridges, while also pointing out the region's spectacular recreational opportunities. There are two parts to this tour: a walking section in downtown Livingston Manor and a 20-mile driving section that circles from Livingston Manor to Roscoe and back. Walking sites are shown in light green on your map, while driving sites are dark green. This tour is brought to you by the Catskill Mountainkeeper, a grass-roots environmental advocacy group that protects the region's extraordinary natural heritage and promotes smart rural economic development.
