About This Tour

Boulders

Deer Blind

The China Creek Trail is tucked away amongst the peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is located just outside of Blowing Rock, North Carolina, east of Sugar Mountain, Seven Devils and Grandfather Mountain State Park.

The tour begins just off NC Highway 221. Walk along on this reclusive nature trail to partake in an intimate experience with the natural scenery and wildlife of Western North Carolina.

The tour features engaging stories on the natural and cultural history of the China Creek area. Learn more about wildlife including the endangered species unique to the Blue Ridge Mountains — the birth of forest management in the U.S — stroll through the old growth forests of Pisgah, and travel back into the rich history of Blowing Rock that predates the colonization of America.

Tour Sponsors
This tour was created in partnership with The Conservation Trust for North Carolina. The Conservation Trust for North Carolina is a nonprofit land trust, dedicated to preserving the natural and scenic corridor along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The Conservation Trust for North Carolina acquired the China Creek Trail, which is located on Johns River Gorge Property, in 2001. The organization has permanently preserved 54 properties totaling 31,408 acres.

The Conservation Trust also assists 23 local land trusts and connects people to nature so that all North Carolinians can enjoy safe drinking water, clean air, fresh local foods, and recreational opportunities, for generations to come.

Local musician, R.G. Absher, generously donated use of his music to accompany the wonderful stories along this route.
